i played this for my concert high school band and we played it really good.

  11. I like this version …
I like this version precisely because there is no wood block being used to simulate horses’ hooves as in some performances. Those gimmicks always ruin a good march.

  12. Oh my gosh, we had …
Oh my gosh, we had to play this for high school band. I HATED it!

    21 year veteran of …
21 year veteran of Army Bands here. The correct tempo is the one that the little white stick is giving you.

Sousa would agree with me, as would every military musician on the planet.

    Aww I like this …
Aww I like this version. I think the tempo is fine, plus the one on the score is just recommended. The conductor chooses the tempo based on skill and preference

    gosh, will people …
gosh, will people stop giving everyone negative comment ratings for voicing their opinions?! if they think it should be faster, or they don’t like how these people used the dynamics, then they can say it as long as they’re not being rude about it

  17. SOUSA MARCHES ARE …
SOUSA MARCHES ARE ABOUT 112 OR SLIGHTLY LESS IN TEMPO, SO THAT THEY CAN ACTUALLY BE MARCHEDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

Do not EVER take Sousa March faster that SOUSA would have required! It is musically WRONG!

  18. American Marches …
American Marches are not the same tempo as British Marches and Circus Marches!!!!!!!!!!

  19. It really doesn’t …
It really doesn’t matter what the tempo is. Some conductors like it faster, while others like to conduct this piece slower. John Sousa had a tempo in mind when he made this song, and he marked it on the music (I think.) All that is is his recommended tempo. And btw, if you don’t like it, play another piece, or nag your conductor.

    thats how fast it …
thats how fast it goes so your band was playing it wrong

  23. It doesn’t matter …
It doesn’t matter who it was, because this is how it was written by Sousa. Take it up with him if you didn’ like the writing.

    Whenever we played …
Whenever we played this (my freshman year), our tempo was about double this.
