What breed of horse is the large, black horse used in the Royal Horse Guard or Queen’s Life Guard?
The Windsor Grays are used to pull the carriages, but the black horses are clearly black, with some having white stars or blazes–the breed standard for Cleveland bays is No white markings with the exception of a tiny star in some cases. Several of them also have extended white socks, nearly the equivalent of a stocking. The breed standard for a Cleveland bay is very specific. Could they be a diluted Cleveland Bay?
The Queen uses Windsor Greys and Cleveland Bays.
