I’m 19 and want to earn enough money to move out and support myself. I would like to clean people’s houses for money and think I could do a good job. But I don’t have a car and would have to rely on getting the bus or walking to all my destinations. This means I wouldn’t be able to bring a mop, sweeping brush or vacuum cleaner. Can I work around this?

Yes, if you want to make this happen you can. Just be sure to let prospective clients know that you will be using their cleaning supplies and not bringing your own. Every home will have their own mop and vacuum, and would probably prefer you using their and not dragging dirt around from house to house anyway.

But if the same person goes to a mechanical supply house (to try to buy a furnace, A/C condenser, etc.), they will only sell to licensed contractors of that trade. Why is that?
It doesn’t make sense that they would purposely turn away sales and business if someone really wanted to buy what they were selling. I can’t understand the logic of turning away customers.

I think jakeb has the right idea. Seahawkone is close. The restriction is on the refrigerant, not the equipment. You can buy a/c components via the internet all the time. You can even try to put them together yourself and hook up the electricity. But you can’t buy the freon or 410-A. That can only be sold to licensed technicians and businesses.

why the term for this sort of thing changed? and how the idea of drinking in a open licensed public area changed in Brtain during Industrial Revolution and why?

how popular in Victorian times and how popular later in Edwardian times? and how changed after WW1 and WW2? how are today?

please explain what you can

thanks for your answers!

Public houses were so called because they were literally houses that sold alcohol, which was often produced locally and often by the landlord. At first these were illegal but were legalised after the law realised that there was little they could do to stop them so realised that licensing and regulating them made sense and it allowed the authorities to set some standards regarding opening hours, what could be served etc. As the population boomed – especially in the rapidly growing urban areas this was often the only access that many people had to alcohol.

Taverns, inns etc were usually roadside hostelries for travellers who needed somewhere to stay, hotels at that time were for rich people and beyond the budgets of many people.
