Am surprised no one has complained in the previous 2 years it has been sold…after all we seem to complain about everything these days

I think its a great name, I have had a few Christmas jumpers which must have been bought under the influence

Can any Cardiff beer drinkers recommend just one or two traditional type real ale pubs near the City Centre? I’m interested in real ale and the traditonal type, older pub.

If you are good enough to reply please say both the name of the Pub and (very important) the street it is in.

Please don’t refer me to websites (I could do that myself) I would like to hear from people who know Cardiff and actually use pubs themselves.

hope those pubs I gave you in Birmingham a few months ago were ok

Now I haven’t been to Cardiff for about five years but I know these are still going strong

The Vulcan Hotel, Adam Street – head north east from train station past The Big Sleep then under the railway viaduct, pub is on the right, no spit but plenty of sawdust in this Brains house, stopped selling Dark in 2005 & has been threatened with demolition for the last few years
(you will have passed The Golden Cross on the way which is worth a look)

Chapter Arts Centre, Market Road – Pleasant bar in arts centre, plenty of unusual beers on tap or in bottle, good basic grub in cafe next door, good 20 minute walk down Cowbridge Road from station.

Cayo Arms Cathedral Road – Outlet for Tomos Watkins beers, makes a change from Brains, 15 mins from station.

Where Cathedral & Cowbridge Road meet is The Westgate, another good Brains house, beware plastic glasses on big match days because of its proximity to the Millenium Stadium.

I would have liked to have told you about The Glamorgan County Council Staff Club on the corner of Westgate & Quay Streets bang opposite the stadium but it was closed by the council in 2007 "for refurbishment" but hasn’t reopened 4 years later, luckily The City Arms is directly behind.

The two pubs that I use most in West Bromwich, both serve excellent selection of real ales so I stick to them, not so keen on spirits as I’m scared of ghosts!
