I have a friend who cannot eat foods that contain gluten or dairy, and I want to take her out to a nice restaurant. Which restaurants have good options for those under these restrictions?

You’re probably going to have to discuss it with her. A bad experience can turn someone off to a restaurant even if they have a gluten free / dairy free menu.

The GF Registry is great as a starting point (as it only lists GF, you’ll need to contact the restaurant specifically for DF). Steakhouses might be ok, however, high-end steakhouses tend to butter their grills which will contaminate the steak cooked on it.

What does it matter who cooks it as long as the recipe is Chinese and it doesn’t taste like Mexican food, but it’s probably because they can pay them less.

I’m leaving for college in August and I just want an extra job to help pay for school, but everywhere that I have looked wants a long term commitment. Do an restaurants do summer hiring?

Unless situated in a tourist location, restaurants don’t have a ’season’ during which they require additional workers since the flow of customers remains stable throughout the year. The work would be "seasonal" to you because you only want to work one season – this Summer – that’s not the same thing. Since your time and ability to commit to a job is limited, you’ll have more luck wtih fast food places than restaurants. However all you can do is go to all the places local to you and keep trying. Good luck.

How can i eat less at restaurants but still get that "stuffed" feeling . I want to be able to eat less food at a steak restaurant but still get that feeling where i cant eat anymore what are your tips?

I would think that they would serve chicken. If you don’t feel you have to have steak I would have that. I don’t think I fully understand what you’re trying to say? Do you want to feel full without overeating? There are several things that can contribute to feeling full. Water. Drink lots of water. Eat a salad with your steak. That honestly should make you feel more full.

I own a smokehouse (fish, cheese & butter) and currently sell direct to the public. How might I branch out and sell to restaurants? I’m thinking they either buy their product from Costco, a distributor or lightly smoke their own products in house. I’d like to branch out to selling to restaurants in order to boost our business as currently we rely mostly on tourism and locals. We have superior product…I’m just not sure we can compete with Costco prices.

If you have a superior product, locally smoked, real smoke, no added chemicals, and small batches, rather than bulk-by-the-truckload like Costco’s, I’d start with the better restaurants. You know your local ones, the places with fancy food, or advertise locally-grown veggies, organic food. Those places would be more interested in fine food products, well-prepared, than, say, a diner or a sandwich place. Phone around, ask to make an appointment to speak to the owner or manager. Take samples, talk your stuff up. If you currently only sell direct to the public, that’s probably a plus for the restaurants, as opposed to you selling through a distributor.
