    What I am wondering about is if I would happen to buy non-raw cashews (not roasted, though, but boiled in shell), would it be necessary to soak them? Are there enzyme inhibitors in kinda-sorta raw, but boiled-in-shell cashews?

    Eatingperson: I think it means it alkalinizes the water. If you buy distilled water, it’s dead. If you spritzed some raw lemon juice, it has electrolytes and the water becomes alive again. I would imagine that a quality, raw salt would also alkalinize the water, since sodium is alkaline, as are minerals like calcium and magnesium, which are in a raw salt…

    Ani, my understanding from growing the trees is that cashews are lightly blanched or roasted on the plantation almost immediately after being picked & separated from the cashew apple. The nut (and casing) contains an irritating toxic oil that is destroyed easily by heat. (many members of Anacardiaceae, like poison ivy, possess such oils).

    I am wondering if “raw” applies to cashews, as they are also very perishable when uncooked, also only sprouting if left in their casing, in my experience.

    I love it natures way of fortifying our mylk is just add dates.
    Have not tried making any kind of mylk yet. Probably because I have no idea what I would do with it besides drink it.

    Wow – thanks for mentioning the pasteurization law. I will be even more careful in seeking out only organic nuts from now on, as all others are quite likely to have been pasteurized with Propylene oxide…some truly nasty stuff. While possible that the non-organic nuts may have been pasteurized with steam there is no labeling law so you never know…

    @guitarlovenjc you can use whatever nuts you prefer. do the best you can. i know the pasteurization silliness makes it challenging for us to find raw nuts, except maybe online and at some coops.

    @Haitianbeauty36 i don’t bother to strain because i really like my fiber. i like the body. you can strain, but it’s an extra step. then use the fiber for dehydrated crackers or cookies to make them lighter.
