@TheBerkeleyBear In morals and ethics, as in logic, there are basic premises that rational beings accept as axiomatic. I imagine the Founders had some inkling when they identified certain unalienable rights as self-evident truths, among these, life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. One can try to justify slave ownership by attempting to disprove the second one of these, liberty, but that’s an exercise in futility left for those who just don’t seem to get it.
