how do i find info on public houses in my area circa 1700’s?

i live in scarborough, north yorkshire area

and take it from there.

  3. Look in a search engine for tourist information for your area and type in what you are looking for. If they can’t find any old pubs , then there aren’t any!

  4. Go to the library or the court house and look uder land deeds.

  5. You could look on the ten yearly census info. The last was 2001 and it is available on line after a hundred years has elapsed. You can trace the history of buildings, their use and their owners and tenants down the years.

  6. Much of the historical information you’re looking for is probably available on your council website. There’s also your local ‘rag’ who probably have archives going back a hundred years or more at least. There will also be archive material available in your local libraries.

    In addition to all of the above, why not try typing Scarborough 1700 into your Google Search slot and see what happens. Wham!
