What is the best real Ginger Ale made with real ginger?

I like Vernors etc, but I am looking for a traditional Ginger ale or beer with a strong ginger taste. I suffer from a lot of stomach problems and good ginger ale helps. Boo-hoo!

Its rather trivial to make yourself.

Mix a gallon of boiling water with a pound of sugar, one ounce of finely chopped ginger and the juice of a lemon. You can mix the sugar into the water as it boils (it will make it easier to dissolve) but do not boil the ginger. You can add the lemon zest too, just be careful you do not include the white rind.

Put this into something you can put an airlock on and put some yeast in it (after it cools off). In fact you can use baking yeast if you like as all you are doing is having the yeast carbonate it. Let it sit for 2 days at room temperature and put it in the refrigerator (to slow down the fermentation to almost nothing).

You can also do this without the yeast and carbonate it either by force (putting it under pressure with CO2). You can also do it without an airlock simply burping the bottles a few times each day. Just be careful when you open the bottles as it can foam out the top, somewhat violently. Just crack the bottle and quickly close it until the CO2 does not escape so quickly.

  2. You should look for ginger beer (same concept as root beer). You probably won’t have any luck finding it in a regular grocery store so try online. It’s much stronger than regular ginger ale but it’s very tasty.
